Read of the Week #01

So...
Yeah, this was supposed to start off later this weekend (I was initially aiming for a Saturday night kickoff, so to speak) but then it just hit me outta the blue:
It's Valentine's Day!
Should I really let this chance slip past? Not even one little romance themed story for the season?
Nah.

So, with that in mind, let's kick Read of the Week off with some love themed books to immerse yourself into!

Lovers for Life
We'll start off with my pick for the more generic 'romantic' stories.

For the more classical 'novel readers' out there, my pick for this year is Nora Roberts' Tribute. It's a powerful story of legacy, secrets, finding one's place and, of course, love.
Tribute is a personal favorite of mine even amongst Nora Roberts' library of works. In fact, not only do I admire the character of Ford Sawyer, I had a bit of a crush on Cilla (and yes, I thought up entire plotlines for Brid, too!)
If you're a fan of contemporary romance, this is an absolute must-read.

----------

If you're like me and you've 'diversified' from the 'good old novels' to webnovels and -particularly- fanfics then these two are for you.

My first pick is The Good Wife, by ReiraKurenai over on fanfiction.net. It's a Naruto fanfic that kicks against the canon NaruHina ship and goes for a (slightly) less common NaruIno. I won't spoil it for you but it does feature a blend of elements including sci-fi (time travel/multiple timelines), fantasy (it maintains elements of the Naruto franchise's chakra/magic system) and a healthy helping of plot twists. It suffers a tiny bit from being a tad rushed in the end but the journey and conclusion make it well worth it as far as I'm concerned. Once again, that's The Good Wife by ReiraKurenai.

My second pick for Val's Day 2023 is a lot less about romantic love and more of a family thing. The fic (yes, another fanfic. I'm partial to them: sue me) is A Father's Love by KyokaSuigetsuKyoka. If you loved the Percy Jackson series and wanted to see Annabeth and Lacy enjoying a vastly better family life, this is the story for you. There are a few violent scenes and one that could count as being disturbing but the rest of it is the kind of comfortable fluff that we can all coo at. On an unrelated side note, I totally want my kids to be like Annie and Lacy.
Warning: the story is for more mature audiences and the story features a polygamous setup between Naruto and two women.

So, these are my picks for Read of the Week, Val's Day 2023. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section!
Happy Valentine's Day!
